The rain can function as a fuzzy partitioning device. Pouring rain in a thunderstorm can block your sight and form an impenetrable wall of water, while you can see and walk through a drizzle. Located in the heart of Shibuya, Tokyo, Amayado—the Rain Hotel—provides accommodation spaces enclosed with walls of falling water, adjusting their intensity and distribution to the needs of users. The sporadic and adapting distribution of rainfall allows for fuzzy and fluid use of the floor plan.

This conceptual design was developed as part of the assignment for an undergraduate design studio.
